Cold drink equipment is critical for our business - it also represents a significant source of indirect carbon emissions. Because of these we're continuing to work on a number of projects that seek to improve the energy efficiency of our fridges.
Minimising environmental impact
The Coca-Cola Company was the first to introduce two major refrigeration initiatives:
-
All new equipment must contain Hydro Fluorocarbon (HFC) free insulation, which can avoid up to three-quarters of the direct (greenhouse gas) emissions compared to our old equipment.
-
Development and implementation of our own special energy-saving device, Energy Management System 55 (EMS-55), that now delivers energy savings of up to 35%.
Energy Management Systems (EMS)
Our EMS-55 ‘smart’ controllers can sense changes in the local environment and react to usage patterns, reducing energy consumption by up to 35%. Implemented in 2004, our EMS-55 is used in every piece of new equipment with a capacity of 250L and above.
